FIELD OF ENVIRONMENT: 2018-19
ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
a) Environment Day – Visit to Anandvan on June 6, 2018:
Our children celebrated the Environment day with great gusto and enthusiasm. They got the opportunity to go to ‘Anandvan’ and plant trees on June 6, 2018. They experienced the hardship and perseverance required to make a difference in the environment. Another feather in the cap was when a few of our students also got the opportunity to be interviewed by 94.3 Radio One where they confidently expressed their views. Parents were happy that children got this golden opportunity. This kind of exposure will definitely help our children to be responsible citizens and be proactive as well.
b) Plantation and Gardening drives- July 11, 2018:
Students were actively involved in the plantation of vegetable and fruit seeds in our very own campus. Vegetables such as lady-finger, chilies, tomato, pumpkin, potato and fenugreek and fruits such as mango, orange, sweet lime, pear, figs, guava and papaya have been planted in our garden by the students. The importance of watering of plants and gardens and the role trees and greenery play in maintaining the oxygen level in the atmosphere was brought to the attention of the students both pre-primary as well as the primary sections.
c) “Trash to Treasure Exhibition” – July 28, 2018:
Students came up with innovative ways in which plastic can be used. From Planters, to bird feeders and decoration items, they made it all. They also gave a live demo of making paper and cloth bags to parents and sensitized them with the message of Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce. They not only show-cased their creative side but also it boosted their responsibility towards Mother Nature.
d) “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” – September 18, 2018:
As part of the CBSE activity, students of grade 4 wrote an appreciation letter to the PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi for the success of “Swatch Bharat Abhiyan” on September 18, 2018. Students congratulated him and thanked him for his tireless efforts in making India cleaner, greener and happier. Students also wrote as to how they would contribute towards keeping their school, home and surroundings clean. They also expressed that strict rules must be laid down by the government and punishment should be meted out for violation of rules. This entire activity motivated the students and made them realize that they have a greater role and responsibility towards keeping our nation clean.
e) Cleanliness Drive – October 3, 2018:
Keeping the motto of “Clean India, Green India “Sanskriti School, Undri, celebrated cleanliness drive as a movement within the school on October 3, 2018. The students strived to fulfill Mahatma Gandhi ‘s dream of a clean &hygienic India. They also emphasized the importance of ‘Do not Litter, nor let others litter”. The importance of clean sanitation habits and personal hygiene were instructed to the students.
f) Segregation of waste at source – Everyday practice:
The all crucial topic of separating the dry from the wet waste was highlighted to the students to put into practice, no matter where they may be. Drink cans, glass, plastic and paper need separate means of disposing. The habit of composting wet waste from food discards to ensure that it is converted into fertilizer, which can then be put in personal gardens and also near surrounding trees, gave the students of Sanskriti school food for thought.
Future drives: The higher-class students need to be alerted on the pros and cons of the use of digital devices. Also, in future, schemes will be undertaken to help students understand the impact of technology on today’s world. The use and proper discarding of electronic waste is a very crucial topic that needs to be addressed. Gadgets such as power cords, GPS devices, speakers, DVD players, cell phones, laptops, TV’s and the like, if not disposed properly can lead to electronic waste which includes chemicals like lead, cadmium, beryllium and mercury. These hazardous materials pollute air, contaminate soil and “leach” into natural underground water sources. This leads to danger to human life as consumption or contact with these lethal toxins lead to brain damage, kidney diseases, genetic mutations and also cancer.
